Ottiwell Wood 1841 - 1869
Ottiwell Wood was born in 1841 to John Rider Wood and Jane Strickland in Ambleside, Westmoreland.
In 1851 he is living with his parents in Thornton Rust, North Yorkshire.
The 1861 census shows he was unmarried and living at 63, Elizabeth Street, Liverpool as a boarder. He was working as a clerk.
In 1863 at the Holy Trinity Church, Walton on the Hill, Ottiwell married Louisa Susanne Sarah Hayes - born Manchester in 1844.
Ottiwell was a commercial clerk when he married, living at 6 Clarence Street. His father, John Rider Wood was a solicitor. (Deceased.)
The wedding notice was published in the Liverpool Mercury (Liverpool, England), on June 20, 1863; Issue 4793:
'Wood-Hayes - June 18th at Holy Trinity, Walton Breck by Revd H Lomas, incumbant, Mr. Ottiwell Wood to Louisa Susanne Sarah, eldest daughter of Mr. John O.Hayes of Everton'.
Ottiwell and Louise moved to 39 Compton Street, Everton by the time their son, John Rider was born. Ottiwell was working as a Bookeeper in 1864.
In 1869, Ottiwell died suddenly, at 45 Newlands Street, Everton - certified as "Morbis Cordis".
The informant was LN Hayes of 13 Everton Village, who registered the death 2 days later. However, the surname given was incorrect, and was eventually corrected to "Wood" by LN Hayes and A Hayes.
Could it actually be LW Hayes - for Leo Walter Hayes, instead of LN Hayes? Is A Hayes - Alfred Hayes, Louise's elder brother?
The Liverpool Mercury (Liverpool, England), published an obituary on June 30, 1869; Issue 6686:
'Wood - June 20th at 45 Newlands Street, Everton, Ottiwell Wood, son of the late John Rider Wood of Askrigg, Wensleydale, Yorkshire'.
While researching for information on Ottiwell's mother, Jane Strickland, I came across a census record which shows that Ottiwell and Louisa also had a daughter - Louisa Beatrice Wood, born in 1866.
